NEW U.S. PROGRAMME CONTROL OF INDUSTRY WASHINGTON, Feb. 27. General Hugh Johnson, addressing a 'public meeting for the purpose of constructive criticism, to-day reviewed the N.R.A. ’s accomplishments and projected a 12-point programme to widen the scope of the codes, the 'principal features of which are as follows: A further reduction of working hours. An increase of hourly wages.
A more uniform and equitable rule of price stabilisation to prevent cutthroat competition, with further insurance against prices outstripping the purchasing power. A more effective rule to prevent sales below costs of production. Uniformity of wages and hours in competitive industries. Protection against monopoly. A wider use of the mechanism for settling labor disputes. Adequate labor and consumer representation in an advisory capacity on the code authorities.
