UNEMPLOYMENT ISSUE

LABORITE’S CHALLANGES ' * ' g ; * . I !Ui : CONTEST FOR SEAT Y*. ■ ; ji ! ' J '‘ (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. ■ A challenge to the Minister of Employment, the Hon. A. Hamilton, the vice-chairman of the Unemployment Board, Mr J. S. Jessep, or to the editor of the Dominion to contest with him the Wellington East seat was issued by Mr R. Semple, M.P., in an address at Kilbirnie. After referring to editorial‘criticism by the Dominion, Mr Semple said: “I ani prepared to resign my seat to-mor-row if the Minister will resign 7 Jus, and I will toss him to decide which seat we will contest to see whether the people' will endorse the cruel, brutal policy of the Government in regard to unemployment. If the Minister will not do that, I am- prepared to resign my seat and- contest it with Mr Jessep, who is- imposing poverty on thousands of people in the Dominion. That is a definite challenge. Or, if neither of these is courageous enough, I am prepared to contest the seat with the editor of the Dominion. Let the Dominion accept that challenge, or hold its peace as far as an election is concerned.”
