Children frdm the Catholic schools in ' Wellington gathered yesterday afternoon in the Town Hall to do honor to Archbishop Redwood. The big building was Silled to overflowing, many of the older folk being unable to obtain admission. The chairman, Archbishop Q Spea, said that the magnificent spectacle of the children assembled before him gave one on idea of the splendid Catholic school system that existed in the Dominion, in which Archbishop Redwood had dayed a very important part. He had seen the system grow' until it now possessed magnificent schools, colleges, equipment, and great teachers in its brothers, sisters and priests. He recalled those things just to show what an immense debt oi gratitude the children of the present generation owed to Archbishop Redwood. He hoped that they would never forget how privileged they were; that they would never forget the archbishop 111 their prayers; and that they would be mk eucouraged in after-life to be worthy of Sihe efforts he had made on their behap, to be worthy of their and a credit to the church over which he presided with such great success and dignity. , , Following Archbishop 0 Shea s speech, an. address from the children was read by Noel Doohan, head prefect of St. Patrick’s College, Wellington. Archbishop Redwood said that when he entered the hall he felt that he had not seen such an impressive sight for a long time past. He congratulated the children most sincerely for it, and hoped that they would continue to remember throughout their lives the great boon - they had received by their Catholic education. The gathering concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Archbishop Redwood left the hall amid enthusiastic cheers from the children.
