LATE KING ALBERT

SERVICE IN WELLINGTON DOMINION’S TRIBUTE (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. A solemn requiem mass for the repose of the soul oi' the late King Albert was celebrated this morning at St. Mary of the Angels by Archbishop O’Shea. The deacon of the mass was Chaplain Captain Moloney, and the subdeacon Chaplain Captain Murphy, both of the N.Z.E.F., and the assistant priest was Chaplain Captain Connolly. Bishop Nicholas of Fiji and Bishop Gleeson ot Maitland were also in the sanctuary.

The high altar and sanctuary were draped in violet and black. The consul for Belgium, M. Nihotte, occupied a special prie-dieu near the altar. The catafalque, at the altar steps was draped with the Belgian flag, surmounted with the steel helmet of a Belgian soldier. Tho church was crowded to capacity with a congregation representative of all parts of the Dominion, and also Australia, and included were tho representatives of many nations, and also the representatives of Government, departments and various organisations in the Dominion.

An address was delivered by Chaplain Major Barra, a French priest who served as chaplain with tho New Zealand troops in Belgium. His text was from Eccles.: “Blessed is tho land whoso king is noble.”
