BRITISH WEST COAST PORTS AUSTRALIA SEEKS OPENING Every effort is being made by the Australian Dairy Produce Export Board to 1 secure a regular shipping service to Liverpool. .Manchester, AVonmouth and Glasgow in order to expand its market for dairy produce there. Shipowners, however, have .claimed that there are difficulties in providing these services and recently the board asked its London manager, Dir. W. C. May, to investigate the position. The results of Mr. May's inquiries have been published in the Australian Dairy Review, issued by the; board. Mr. May cabled the board as follows : “Recommend that about 15,000 tons butter,'and 600 toils cheese be shipped direct to the ports mentioned, spread over 12 months. .. . London importers express sympathy with idea of regular service to the outports. .. . Cannot too strongly urge utmost necessity regular frequent arrivals ; many retailers refraining stock Australian butter owing to tincertainty regular supplies; , spasmodic shipments lose goodwill, its traders switch to other descriptions, from which they are reluctant to-change again.
