New Note in Evening Frocks
I OVERSEA fashion designers, search1' ing for a new note of interest to i| give to the winter evening frock, have l] concentrated on the neckline and the shoulder line. The skirt, if it is per | l'cctly cut and hangs like the prover- ; bial “dream,” and is floor-length, is ( “right.” j The concentration has not been ! fruitless. Very interesting is a cape II over the shoulder, with folds to tako ’! care of the arrangement of the full- ! ness, and a brooch or ring to hold it to ] the correct width at the base of the | neck. The brooch must, of course, be j chosen with the greatest care, for it ! is such a seemingly tiny detail as this j that will malic or marr the frock. I Lovely, hand-wrought pieces of jewel- | lery figure on the more costly frocks, but the imitations and pastes are so j good that only the sharpest eye can ] tell the difference. It is the design band the shape that are important j' rather than the stones. The materials J from which they are made seem to | suggest night moonstones, silver ] sequins, onyx, and milky white and j' silver beads. In star shapes and dia- | j mond shapes, oblongs and circles, they j j adorn black and white frocks with j; equal success. ji Jet has come right into its own j again. From Paris there arrives a | description of a scintillating and un- , j usual model which relied for its effect I upon jet. It was of mahogany ■ brown taffeta, cut deeply at the back, i and the bretelles of taffeta were ' covered with studs of that darkly 1 shining material. The whole skirt, which had its fullness massed at the | back to form a small train, was dotted ' with little cut-out motifs of the ! taffeta caught to the dress with tiny i jet beads. •Square buttons of rhinestones or i‘circles of brilliants still trim the ' frocks and blouses of those Women 1 who have a feeling for the orthodox, ' , but for the Bright Young Thing who J likes to be original at any cost, there ' are all sorts of attractive ideas. , Though these new floor-sweeping l frocks rather hide the ovening footwear, new designs in dance shoes aro, so delightful that they deserve to be seen.
