BITTER OPPOSITION
U.S. RECOVERY PLAN REPUBLICANS’ STAND WASHINGTON, Dec. 4. The Republican National Committee, apparently in anticipation of the reconvening of Congress in January, and next year’s Congressional elections, has issued a broadside attack on the recovery programme. In a 25-pago statement, it is contended that the Roosevelt administration is conducting itself along the lines of a dictatorship. It has put private initiative in the guard house, is censoring the radio, and trying to censor the press. The statement says that while Mr Roosevelt had escaped partisan criticism more than any President since Washington, lie had more power than President Lincoln or President Wilson in war times.
The statement criticises the National Recovery Act monetary policy and practically all other features of the recovery plan. It says that the Republicans do not consider the economic situation anything akin to “war,” and are determined to maintain their identity and take issue with anything the President did when they saw fit.
