(Herald Correspondent.) At the Mutawni Public Hull on Saturday night a jolly dance and euchre party were conducted by the combined tennis and basketball clubs. The music was supplied by Mrs. Mein-tens, extras being played by Misses Mortlemaii and Scholium. During the evening the donation competition was drawn, Mr. R. Mortlcman thanking those who had given in aid of the funds, saying that much more money was received than was anticipated. The successful competitor was a local railway employee, and the second prize went to a young woman in Gisborne. Mrs. P. Jacobs won the ladies’ prize for the euchre tournament and Mr F, Korio the men’s. Mr. J. LoProu, for many years employed on the railway, both at Matawai and Rakanroa, lias been transferred to the Taneatna line, some, miles from Tauranga. Mr. and Mrs. LoProu and family leave to-morrow.

The rainfall for Matawai for November was 3.45 in., and for the 11 months 67.92 inches. For Koranga Valley it was 3.57 inches. Rain fell on 17 days, the heaviest fall being .76in. on November 4. Other prizes were awarded to Mrs. Adams, Messrs. N. ft. Harding, R. S. Leggett, and McLatehie. The Homebush Ladies’ Entertainment Committee held a meeting last week, when it was decided to hold an open picnic at the animal school break-up. Invitations have been received by exresidents of the Waioeka Valley to attend a Christinas tree and picnic at the Wairata School - grounds on December 9. Mr. G. Anderson had the misfortune to have his camp destroyed by fire on Monday afternoon.

At. the meeting of shareholders of the Matawai Saleyards Company, held last week, it was decided to revert to the old yard fees, owing to the heavy expenses during the year. Tire catering for sale days was tendered for, Mrs. T. Scholium’s tender being accepted. I lie date of the first sale for 1944 was fixed for January 17.
