VISIT OF DIOMEDE
HARBOR BOARD’S AID SHIP TO SHORE TELEPHONY In a graceful note of acknowledgment to the chairman of the Harbor Board, Mr. J. Tomblesou, for the aid rendered his ship during her visit to Gisborne roadstead, Captain Cosmo Graham to-day paid special attention to the feature of the ship-to-shoro radio telephone, which the Harbor Board placed at the disposal of the cruiser’s commander. “Before wo leave Gisborne, I want to thank you oil behalf of my officers and ship’s company for tho many kindnesses and courtesies your board lias extended to us during our stay,” wrote Captain Graham. “Without your launch 1 cannot see how we should all have got ashore to take part, in the many entertainments so kindly provided for us. “I would be grateful if you would Earticularly convey my thanks to tho arbonnaster, Captain Carson, the pilot, and tho crew of the launch for all thenwork on our behalf.
“Your wireless telephone, which I cannot praise too highly, has been a great boon. It must surely have a commercial future. I am glad tp see Gisborne so much ahead of others in this way. Wo look forward to the pleasure of meeting you all again in the near future.”
A final message of farewell was dispatched from the cruiser after the dismantling of the sliip-to-shore telephone. As the vessel was steaming out: of the bay, the following message sent by semaphore from Captain Graham -was picked up at the signal sta-tion:—‘“Good-bye; many thanks; God bless you.’’
