The search for a spanner on a farm i at Gordon, siboul 20 miles from Baltla rat, led’to the discovery of a roof * containing gold. Mr. David Toohey, ploughing on a farm which lie bought two years ago : from Mr. John Carnithers, discovered ! that’ a spanner was missing, anil ■searched back over the furrows. In ; Fig search ho fpund a piece of quartz confaiping gold, which the plough had , turned up. Mr. Totthcy followed his • discovery by a search which showed i that a reef was hidden by only about ! a foot of 'earth.. All the grouivl in the district has already been pegged out, and mining leases have been applied for. The value of the crpsliings in two days from Toojiey ’s mine and that of f ho' Corbett prptjpSTs was £1 278. The Cor-1 beft brothers obtained £BOO worth of gom from 38 tons of quartz.
