TOMORROW'S PROGRAMME ELECTRIC LIGHT MEETING A programme of events for to-morrow nights electric light track meeting at the Childers road reserVe was approved at the weekly meeting of the Umborno Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club, held last evening under the presidency of Mr. C. McCoy. It was reported also that two additional floodlights had been procured, and would be available for tomorrow evening’s meeting, 'through the courtesy of the Poverty Bay Power Board’s engineer a demonstration had been given of the six lights in operation, and the improvement in the system had met with complete approval, no difficulty being experienced in distinguishing the competitors at any point in the field. The programme approved for to-mor-row night's meeting was as follows lQOvds ladies’ handicap; 220yds men s handicap, first distance for the MartinAislabie Cup: one mile flat .handicap, first distance for the Johnson Cup; 100yds men's scratch race; 100yds primary schoolboys’ handicap; 75yds primary schoolgirls’ handicap; one-mile cycle handicap; two-mile cycle handicap; one mile junior cycle, under 21, first distance for the Innes Cup; discus throw; broad jump; novelty event, cvciist v. runner; and men’s challenge relay race. Entries for the crew of 11.M.5. Diomede are to be arranged. • Upon his intimating that ho woulu attend at the reserve at 10.30 a.m. on week-ends to give instruction in walking, Mr. P. Brady was added to the club a list of coaches. The chairman mentioned that Mr. Brady had a distinguished record in this branch of athletics, and that the club was particularly fortunate in having his services at its disposal. Those intending to take advantage of the instruction in walking were asked to hand their names to Mr. T. Leslie. " It was resolved to forward a letter to Miss I. Choveaux, a prominent runner last season, wishing her a speedy recovery from her recent indisposition. Some time ago a letter ’was"Tor warded to the Te Karaka Sports Club suggesting that a branch of the club sjiould be formed in that district, and a reply was received at last evening’s meeting stating that owing to the scattered nature of the Te Karaka district and the difficulty experienced in assembling competitors, it was not possible at present to accede to tjhe Gisborne club’s request. The Te Karaka Sports Club also applied for permission to include amateur events in the programme for its New Year’s Day meeting. In order to finalise arrangements, a sub-committee comprising Messrs. McCoy, Keane, Grant, and Wildish was appointed to interview the executive committee of the Te Karaka club on a date to be decided later. The preparation of the track for tomorrow night’s meeting was left in the hands of Mr. W. M. Wildish. Competitors were again reminded that registration numbers were obtainable at the office of Mr. W- M- Wildish, Gladstone road. It was decided that nominations for the proposed basketball teams’ relay race should close on Tuesday week, and Mr. Wallace was requested to interview the executive committee of the Poverty Bay Basketball Association in this respect, Mr. T. R. Gordon was warmly thanked for a donation of four suitably inscribed silver brooches as trophies for the event. Mr. G. Hollamby was elected a member of the club.

HANDICAPS DECLARED Handicaps for to-morrow night’s meeting, the second of the series of electric-light sports meetings, were declared this morning. The club has received excellent entries for the various events, and it is expected that the total will he swelled iliy the addition of further entries from members of the cre.w of 11.M.5. Diomede. The Rifles Band will be in attendance, and, given fine weather, an excellent entertainment is promised. The first event is timed to commence at 7.45 p.m. Following are the handicaps:— 220yds.
