THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report. Blue skies were reported at Auckland this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island, with light rain in places. Light north-easterly breezes were blowing at Auckland, and moderate southerlies elsewhere. The barometer had commenced a rising movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland 69 degrees, Tauranga 68, Opotiki 58, East Cape 64, Gisborne and Napier 59, and Wellington 53. Rough seas were reported .at- Cape Campbell, Wellington, and Tauranga; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast. A depression with a slight cyclonic centre in the northern portion is passing over New Zealand to-day, and an anticyclone is advancing from the Tasman. Winds: North-east to north at first over most of the North Island, but southerlies becoming general by the. morning, force moderate to strong. Seas: Rough in the Cook Strait area and between Banks Peninsula and the East (Jape; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea : South to south-cast winds, smooth to moderate seas. Weather: Becoming line in western districts from Taranaki southwards; elsewhere some scattered rain, especially in the eastern districts between Cook Strait and the East Cape. Temperatures cooler. Midday Forecast. General inference.—The recent depression is now passing away eastwards, and an anticyclone is moving from the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand, the centre being west of the South Island. Forecast.—Fresh to strong south-east winds, gradually moderating. Weather cool and changeable, with occasional showers, but improving shortly. Seas rough.
