Sir Frederic Aykroyd has accepted an invitation to stand as president of the British Wool Federation.—A. and N.Z.C.A.
Mr 0. C. Brady, the newly-appointed Wellington manager of Messrs. Burns Philp and Company, Limited, accompanied by his wife and family, arrived at 'Wellington yesterday ny the Makura from Sydney. For the past 15 years, Mr Brady has been an inspector for the company in the Pacific Islands, his headquarters being at Sydney. —P.A.
Many tributes to the splendid service rendered to cricket in the district by Mr, E. C. Fox were paid at last evening’s meeting of the management committee of the Poverty Bay Cricket Association, and it was unanimously resolved that as a token of Mr. Fox’s service in his capacity as honorary treasurer over a period of approximately 20 years, a presentation of a suitable nature should be made at an early date. Several members of the committee, expressed the feeling that the association bad lieen extremely fortunate in having the services of Mr. Fox as treasurer over so long a period. Mr. G. J. Williams, M.Sc., 8.E., Dunedin, holder of a travelling scholarship in science, has been awarded the Ph.D., of London University for his researches on the geology of Stewart Island and other studies. Last year he completed a study of the geology of the La Zarza mining field in Southorn Spain, for which he was granted the diploma of the Imperial College of Science, and ho was also awarded the Frechevillo Prize and a special prizo of £SO given by the Institute of Mining and Metallurgy. Dr. Williams recently began his duties on- appointment by the Colonial Office to a special survey of the economic geology of British Guiana. Dr, Williams held a vacation engagement in geological work for the Tharsis Sulphur and Copper Mining Company, Southern Spain, in 1931.
