Between 50 anj 60 oarsmen and their friends attended the annual picnic of tlie Gisborne Rowing Club, held yesterday ut the Island in the Waimaln River, under ideal conditions as to tide and weather. The afternoon was spent in a variety of games and competitions ashore, wliile a series of four-oar events were vowed off on the upper reaches, of the river, the winners of the series being K. ('rarer (sir.), It. Nicol, g. Bruce, and P. Hansen. In the final this four defeated a veterans’ crew stroked by K. iA. Woodward and including two iormcr representatives of the Gisborne, club. A special rare between bank stall representatives and employees of commercial bouses was won by the latter, and some interesting novelty events were also contested, adding to tlm general amusement of the spectators. The picnic arrangements wore most elfeelivo, and former members of the club who attended the gathering expressed much satisfaction in respect of the sustained strength of the active membership.
