Maxin Litvinoff, Soviet Minister of Foreign Affairs, declared tonight, that- the recognition of Russia by the United Statets will weigh the scales in favor of peace. Standing beneath the Stars and Stripes and the Red flag of Russia, at a banquet of the American and Russian Chamber ot Commerce, the man who helped to build the Communist nation was surrounded by prominent New Yorkers. One of the many dramatic moments occurred at the conclusion of the American national anthem. Many of the formally attired throng started to sit down, but the organ halted them as the gilded ballroom of the Waldorf Astoria was filled with the strains of the “Internationale,” the anthem of the Soviet Union.
