SYRIAN DISTURBANCE
FRENCH TREATY OPPOSED (Received Nov. 27, noon.) DAMASCUS, Nov. 26. The French High Commissioner at Syria, as a sequel to Nationalist demonstrations against the Franco-Syrian treaty, suspended Parliament for the remainder of the session. A treaty between France and Syria was signed at Damascus last week. Its object is to end the French mandate aijil to allow Syria to enter the League of Nations. France will give military aid and lend magistrates and officers to help direct Syrian public services. Syria agrees to protect the religion of minorities according to the principles of the League. The agreement with the Irak Petroleum Company relating to a pipe line across Syria will remain undisturbed. The treaty is the tirst step towards the emancipation of Syria in four years’ time.
