DUE TO GAMBLING
tOUNG MAN’S DOWNFALL SENTENCES FOR THEFT i (Per Prtiss Association.) *#/ AUCKLAND, this day. Terence Mbncrieff Nixon, 22, and Cvril Robert Hankins, 25, who were arrested in Australia in October 01 Stealing £795, the property of the Labor Department. Auckland, were sentenced to-day bv Mr. Justice Smith. He said Nixon’s downfall appeared to tie due to gambling. It was the old, old, story. His theft was deliberate, and probation was impossible. He would be detained in a Borstal institute lor three years. Regarding Hankins the judge said be was not a party to the actual theft, but had shared the money, and thereby became a party. He would be admitted to probation for three years, on condition that he paid £IOO to the Labor Department during! the probation period.
