ANOTHER SHORT MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Gisborne Harbor Board, held to-day, was again faced with a short list of business, and there was the prospect of another meeting, the third in succession. Those present comprised Messrs. J. lombleson, chairman, J. B. Broadhurst, 1. Corson, A. J. Nicol, F. C*. A. Leggett, H. J. I'Tombleson, M. Doyle, J. J. .MacDonald, C. N. Williams, A. C, Steele, and M. T. Trafford. Leave of absence was granted to Dr. J. C. Collins, and Messrs. George Smith and Charles Scott. The first two letters received referred to the recent visit of 11.M.5. Laburnum, tiiese communications conveying the thanks of Commander Maxwell-llyslop fi'-p the use of the Harbor Board’s launch, Takitimu. in tendering the sloop, and also the thanks of the Mayor, Mr. John Jackson, for the board’s co-operation in the entertainment of the officers and men of the ship. Both were received. The Cook County Council forwarded a request for a contribution to the cost of the Crown rates conference held recently at Wairoa, the board acceding to the request, on the motion of the chairman, and contributing £2 2s, the sum suggested in the communication. On the motion of the chairman, the boat'd agreed to apply the 10 per cent, penalty to unpaid rates for the current year on February 28, 1934. the date being fixed, at the suggestion of Mr. Dovle. to suit the convenience of dairyfarmers, who receive their butterfat payments on the twentieth of each month. The December meeting was dropped, on the motion of the chairman, and the next meeting v/ill lielield on January 24.
