TO-DAY’S CRICKET PLAY AT THE OVAL The second series of matches in the Poverty Bay Cricket Association’s senior championship competition was continued at the Oval this afternoon. Chief interest was taken in High School’s recovery in the first innings against Gisborne Club. In the first day’s piay a fortnight ago Gisborne Club made 147 in thir first innings, and at stumps High School had lost five wickets for 50. Resuming to-day, the not-out men, L. H. Thomson (20) and T. Bright (10) continued their valuable stand, making 57 and 35 respectively. At the ninth wicket down High School required 20 runs to pass Gisborne Club’s first innings total, but failed to do so, after getting within five runs of their object, the innings closing for 142. In the Marist v. City game Marist had made 94 in the first innings, and City had made 249 for three wickets on tho first day. The not-out men, C. Fraser (79) and F. Bennett (107) were still undefeated when'the innings was declared at 296, when Fraser had scored 110 and Bennett 123. At tea, Marist had lost two wickets for 35.
Old Boys made 179 in reply to Civil Service’s first innings of 133. Turbitt carried his first day’s score of 18 on to 47, Melvin making 11. Civil Service in the second innings had lost five wickets for 49 runs at the tea at 3.30 p.m. FORBUBY PARK TROTS (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. SYDNEY RUGBY PLAYER (Received November 25, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 25. The Sydney Rugby Union player, McSbane, has been chosen as halfback for Oxford in the match, against Cambridge on December 12.
