£820,000 LOST ON COAL
WORK OF BRITISH MINES LONDON, Oct. 2. A loss of ,£820,000. equal to 4.6 cl per ton, is shown in the official report of the “costs, proceeds, and profits” of the British coal-mining industry during the second quarter of the year ending June 30. A total of 46,425,845 tons was raised, of which over 42,000.000 tons were available for disposal after all colliery requirements had been met. r Fhe costs of production were £29,469.603, averaging 13s 9.24 d per ton, and sales realised £28.649,395, or 13s 4.64 d per toil. Work-people employed numbered 739,940, the lowest figure for 30 years. Tho average earnings of men and hoys was just, over 9s Id per shift.
