£SOO A WEEK MR. ROOSEVELT’S LIMIT WASHINGTON, Oct, 5. By declaring that in his opinion no film' star should be paid more than £SOO a week, President Roosevelt has brought a new chance of success to the smaller film-producing companies in Hollywood. Tho President expressed that vicav on salaries when ho was recently in conference Avitli Mr. S. Rosenblatt, deputy Nira administrator for the amusement industries. Tho suggestion may well mark tho end of the undisputed reign of the larger companies. In the past those have been able to pay salaries with which their smaller rivals coulct not compete. In addition tho President hopes that his view will eliminate cases of extra performers being paid only 15s a day for 18 hours’ worn.
