SALES TAX ON FLOUR AUSTI!A[,rAN DECISION (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn) (Received Nov. 24, noon.) CANBERRA, Nov. 23. The Cabinet decided that a tax of £4 5s a ton on flour should be imposed. This is estimated to yield £1,600,000 during the present financial year) The proposal to borrow money from the Commonwealth Bank lias been abandoned, but £1,400,000 will be provided from revenue, making the total assistance to wheatgrowers £3,000,000. This should enable a grant of 4s an acre to be made to growers.
The Federal Cabinet decided that the financial assistance to wheat growers should be increased to £3,000,000 most of which will be raised by a sales tax*. The sales tax on flour will result in an increase of Id per 21b. loaf of bread.
