REBELLIOUS CONVICTS
BUILDINGS SET ON FIRE EFFECTIVE POLICE ACTION PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 21. Unrest that has prevailed in the State penitentiary here for many months broke out in open rebellion to-day. Seventy-five convicts set fire to several buildings and other's among the 1300 inmates set fire to mattresses. Many attempted to escape over the walls. Five hundred police armed with machine-guns were hurriedly organised, and surrounded the prison and, from the walls, fired into the rioting men, and this finally subdued them. None escaped.
