PROSPERITY IN BRITAIN LORD LLOYD CRITICAL (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) LONDON, Nov. 21. Lord Lloyd, who was the guest of honor at a dinner in the Savoy Hotel, criticised the Government for its failure to cope with unemployment,. Permanent unemployment, he said, had increased by (50,0 00 since Juno. The much-advertised total decrease in unemployment figures was of 237,000 men merely on short time. Mr MacDonald forgot to explain this at the Guildhall dinner. One million persons were receiving public assistance in addition to 2,040,000 unemployed. Britain must realise, said Lord Llov.d, that her export trade was becoming an insecure basis for prosperity. Britain could 'produce her entire bacon, pig, poultry, dairy produce, beef and mutton requirements within 10 years. The navy and merchant ,marine should burn coal, and thus decrease unemploymetn and lessen Britain \s dependence on foreign fuels. Lord Lloyd said he agreed that the Government should abandon its undignified role of uninvited and unheeded adviser of Europe.
