The people of Greymouth are at present receiving the benefit of cut prices, as the result of keen competition Hein? waged among the various grocers in the town. Several of the local stores have amalgamated in order to combat outside competition. The Public Works Department has been able, through the hit|P?ss of the customary floods, to reach the river level with the middle section of the dam at the Waitaki liydro-electrie works. It is now considered that safety point has been reached with the work. “I maintain that when a young woman teacher gets married she should .get out of it and give a single woman a chance,” emphatically declared Mr. W. P. Spencer, chairman of the Canterbury Education Board, at the board’s recent meeting.
