The fact that rabbits were increasing in the Manawatu was stressed at a meeting of the Manawatu Rabbit Board. Railway competition with coastal shipping was the subject of a brief statement by the chairman of. the Napier Harbor Board, Mr. T. M. Geddis, at yesterday’s meeting. Mr. Getldis briefly recounted the action which had been taken by the Harbors Association and the shipowners in regard to the Railway Board’s policy in this direction, and stated that at the last conference pt the association replies had been rec.ojyed to representations made previously. The Railways Board’s reply,,however, had been disappointing, said ML Geddis, in that the board did not. clearly answerTmany of the questions put to it. During the course of the conference, further representations had been made to the board, which had promised to reply. Nothing further had yet been heard, however. The matter was being very j closely followed up by the association and the shipowners, said Air. Geddis. So far they had not progressed very far with the Railways Board, and a further reply was now being awaited,
