BID FOR NOTORIETY

“UNGOVERNABLE McGQVERN” KING INTERRUPTED INCIDENT IN THE LORDS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Received Nov. 22, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 21. Just as the King said: “May God’s blessing rest upon your labors,” alter the opening of the new session in the House of Lords, Mr. J. McGovern, M.P., standing among the members ot tho House of Commons at bar, shouted: “What about the abolition of the means test and unemployment cuts?” The brilliant assemblage was stupified. Few knew that it was Mr. McGovern. No repressive action was taken, but as the King took the Queen’s hand to escort her to the exit, Mr. McGovern said: “All this sham while people are starving.” His Majesty departed with no trace of perturbation. Some of Mr, McGovern’s neighboring members showed signs of resentment and moved towards him, but did not molest him, and the Chamber emptied without further incident. Mr. McGovern said he was not ashamed, and had no regrets. “I was filled with indignation at. the sight of all this colossal show, and could not stand it any longer,” lie said.

Mr. McGovern entered late, and was scarcely noticed. There seems to be a general tendency to ignore the incident, as it was beneath notice and merely the “ungovernable McGovern’s” latest bid for notoriety.
