NATIONAL DANCING

N.Z. ASSOCIATION I\B. CENTRE’S PROGRAMME Discussion of events in connection with the Poverty Bay A. and P. Show, and of other functions of interest to dancing competitors, took place at the .weekly meeting of the Poverty Bay centre of the New Zealand National Dancing and Piping Association, when Mr. E. Sharpies presided over an. attendance comprising Mrs. Perstop, and Messrs. J. Hargreaves, J. McKnight, 1. Sim, D. McLennan, C. Scott, J. Livingston, and W. W. Jonasen, hon. secretary. . . ... The consensus of opinion among those present was that the staging of the dancing section at the Poverty Bay Show was most satisfactory. The chairman mentioned that the judge, Mr. IV. McKenzie Forbes, Rad passed the-most' laudatory comments upon thejmanner.iu which the events were conducted, uiid also upon the- general standard of the national dancing talent of * the district. Mr. Forbes had further commented in the most pleasing strain upon the work of the stewards, Messrs, lliniro arid Mcknight. The dance function held by the association during Show week had proved most satisfactory also, the chairman reported, doing much for, the good, of dancing as .well .cm giving prominence to the centre’s activities. A report upon a meeting with the major officers of the Wairoa A- and P. Association during. Show week was also tabled by the chairman, who mentioned that the' Wairoa officials were keen to, stage a dancing section at their. Show in January.' and that agreement had been reached on the general lines of cooperation. between the dancing association and the Show association. A tentative programme was drawn up, and discussed by the committee, it being mentioned that the Wairoa association had met the wishes of the dancing representatives in regard to prize money and trophies. In addition, a challenge cup is to be available for competition between Napier and Gisborne dancing exponents. The report was received with satisfaction, and the secretary was instructed to secure appropriate numbers to be worn by competitors in dancing contests under the centre’s control. Preliminary steps were taken for the selection of a judge for the Wairoa Show dancing section. Another matter of general interest was the suggestion that a dancing section should be arranged in connection with. the forthcoming , Tolaga Bay . sports meeting, and a.deputation was appointed to take this matter up with the club committee. A donation of £1 was received from Mr. H. Knnioka, of Ruatoria, and was warmly acknowledged. New members appointed at this meeting comprised Mr., and Mrs. T. Parker and Mr. and Mrs. J. Ryan. —
