ESCAPE FROM LORRY EXCITING CHASE FOLLOWS An oxciting pig-hunt, in which many small boys and several men joined, took place in Newton road, Auckland, following an accident in which u motor-lorry, laden with corrugated iron, plate-glass, several drums of benzine and 2(1 pigs, collided with a telegraph pole at the bottom of the steep incline from Symonds street. Iron, glass, benzine drums and pigs were hurled on to the footpath. The driver had a miraculous escape from injury. A woman bystander tainted. The impact was heard seine distance away, and the large crowd which quickly gathered was afforded an unexpected diversion, when 19 small pigs, squealing loudly, began to run in all directions. One was killed in tho accident. Numerous small boys appeared, and, their number augmented by several men, they set off after tho fast-disappearing quarry. Some of the animals scampered away up the hill toward Karangahapc road, but, 10 pigs ran to the rubbish tip which lies, in a hollow at the bottom of the hill. Nothing daunted, several boys, clambering through a maze of old tyres and rusty tins, cut. off the fugitives until two Men arrived, captured the pigs and carried them by relays to another lorry. Meanwhile, the hunt was continued up the hill, and, after a good deal of excitement, tho pursuers caught the remainder of the pigs.
