POVERTY BAY VISIT ENTERTAINMENT PROPOSALS CO-OPERATION ASSURED Co-operation in the plans for entertaining the officers and crew of II.M.iS. Diomede during the visit of the warship to Gisborne has been assured to the Gisborne Publicity League by a number of sports organisations in. the district, and the tentative programme now being prepared tor submission to the 'commander of the warship will include a number of proposals of general interest. The plans oi toe league were discussed brielly m an article in yesterday’s issue, and again at a meeting of the executive held last evening, at which there \vas a representative attendance. Good progress was made in connection with the programme, and in the course of a few days it should be possible to make a definite announcement as to its contents.

There were present at last night’s meeting Mrs. A. C. Terry, and Messrs. V. E. Sanders, chairman, T. A. N. Corson, W. Keith, J. 0. Musgrave, G. ,1. Jeune, il. F. Forster, J. \V. Kane. T. G. Johns, and E. W. Forrest, lion, organiser. During the evening the services of Messrs. G. Clirisp and P. Crawshaw were co-opted in tne respective posts of lion, musical director and hon auditor, and an appointment was also made in connection with a canvass for membership. In the course of discussion, it was’ pointed out that the Gisborne Boxing Association already had arranged for a tournament, at which a number of ratings of H.M.S. Diomede will participate in bouts with local amateurs, that the rowing club:? liad interested themselves in providing a regatta programme, and that the Gisborne Defence Rilie Club had offered to match a team against (lie Diomede’s marksmen in a shooting competition on the Mangapapa range. Other proposals discussed included a moonlight beach carnival, an athletic meeting, and a naval ball, each of which proposals was understood to be in process of organisation. The executive agreed that its function would be to co-ordinate the efforts of the various committees working on the different proposals. Messrs. H. F. Forster, ,T. W. Kane and E. W. Forrest were authorised to proceed with preparations for a suitable welcome to the visitors, and Mrs. Terry, with Messrs. Corson and Jeune, were appointed a subcommittee. to supervise the public ball arrangements. The co-ordination of sports arrangements was left, in the hands of Messrs. Keith. Musgrave, and Kane. The sub-conunittees will report at a further meeting to be held on Monday next.

As a means of raising funds for publicity and organisation purposes, an art union was favored by all present, and it was arranged to make immediate application to the Minister of Internal Affairs for a permit.
