GERMAN FINED £3681 ACTIVITIES IN BRITAIN (Received Nov. 2, noon.) *" " LONDON, Nov. 1. Duno Diekhofor, 3(5, a German, was lined £3681 for defrauding the customs of £l27(> by importing German mechanical lighters without paying duty. The prosecution characterised the offence as an abuse of British hospitality. The lighters were received in Dublin and smuggled to Ulster hidden in the seats of motor ears, and thence sent to London. Diekhofer also defrauded the Free State customs. The magistrate recommended Djckhofer’s deportation. The defence pleaded that he was not desirous of returning to Germany for political reasons.
