PRIVATE COMPANIES

SOME RESTRAINT* URGED “One of the biggest scandals in this Dominion at present is the way private companies tire being formed," said Mr. T. S. Dacre at the last meeting of the council of the United Burgesses Association at Christchurch. He said that a Companies’ Act was to come before the House, and he asked if the question were not one which the council might consider. Half-a-dozen private companies were being formed in New Zealand sometimes in ‘ Christchurch alone— every day. The matter was a difficult one to deal with, but he thought that some representations should be placed before the Prime Minister, the lit. Hon. G. W.‘ Forbes. Dozens of one-man companies were being formed. No capital was being put into them. They could run into no end of liabilities and after a bit they could go into liquidation with colors flying. There should be some guarantee that there was capital in such companies and that the capital remained there. It was decided that Mr. Dacre make a report to the council after lie lias perused the new bill.
