Concentrates For Pigs

WHEN he was in Gisborne at the end W of June, Mr. C. M. Hume, federation supervisor of herd testing, gave ■i valuable feeding table for pigs and their litters, and suggested that farmers should remember it particularly at. this time of the year. For tins reason, the information is reprinted below, the feeding of both minerals and concentrates being mentioned Minerals for pigs.—A mixture of two parts of slacked lime, two parts of steamed bone flour, one part of line salt, and 2oz. of potassium iodide in each 1001 b. Doses. —Weaners under 401 b., 4oz. each per day; pig.*> 40 to 1501 b., loz, each per day; pigs over 1501 b. 2oz. each per day. Concentrates for the sow. —For one month before farrowing, 21b. to 21b. meat meal per day; for 24 hours before farrowing, water only; for four days after farrowing, use bran instead of meat meal; for next 17 days, approximately lib. meat meal per day.

When the basic food is skiin milk, the litter should be fed as follows to porker weights:—At three weeks, 2oz. of moat meal and one pint of skim milk; five weeks, 4oz. of meat meal and half gallon of skim milk; seven weeks, 6oz. of meat meal and li gallons of skim milk; eight weeks, Boz of meat meal, 2oz. of grain meal and two gallons of skim milk; 10 weeks, Boz. of meat meal, 4oz. of grain meal and 2§ gallons of skim milk; 12 weeks, Boz of meat, meal, (ioz. of grain meal and three gallons of skim milk; 14 weeks, Boz. of meat meal, Boz. of grain rneul and three gallons of skim milk; 10 weeks, Boz. of meat meal, Boz. of grain meal and three gallons of skim milk. Increase the concern trate ration (grain meal) by lib. for every gallon of skim milk shortage, for each gallon of skim milk is equal to lib. of food.
