NURSE AND SOLDIER
ROMANCE OF 19 YEARS VANCOUVER, Sept. 7. After having corresponded with each other for 19 years, a Scottish nurse and a Scottish Canadian soldier met for the iirst time yesterday on the occasion ot their wedding here. In 1914 the nurse, who was then working in a London hospital, slipped her name and address into the wrapper of a cake of soap, which she contributed to a patriotic fund. The soldier, whose name is Christie, received it, and wrote to the donor.
Tims began a remarkable romance. The nurse bad recently been working in New York.
Christie once figured in a sensational single-handed battle with a grizzly bear, which caught him unawares while lie was prospecting in the Yukon. Remembering tlie advice of an Indian chief, he bugged the bear close, drew his knife, and gradually wore the bear down. He Suffered terrible agony anil privation for a week before be was able to get help. Twice during the war Christie won decorations.
