ORPHANS SWEPT TO SEA
SIX DROWNED FARROCKAWAY (Long Island). Aug. 9. Fifteen orphan Hebrew children wore swept beyond their depth by the swift undertow of the Atlantic this afternoon) while bathing. This (‘veiling six are reported drowned and the others are in hospital suffering from submersion. One hundred children, inmates of the Pride of Judea Home at Brooklyn were at Fa,rrockaway, a. popular beach 15 miles from New York, enjoying their annual outing, when the accident occurred. Within an instant a group of laughing children were seized by the powerful undertow, and wore transformed into a tangled group struggling for a footing. Beach guards Kith lifebuoys went into action, and am-buhiineos were summoned. The mothers of some of the children were on the beach at th<* time. They rushed into the sea at the risk of their lives in a vain rescue effort.
