Rustle of the Petticoat
THE fashions of 1900 may color the coming winter mode, wrote a Paris fashion expert on July 27. “Rustling taffeta petticoats, plume trimmed hats, trained evening gowns,” are the whispers which leak from designers’ salons bristling with preparations of new winter wardrobes.
Taffeta petticoats of line rustling silk designed to fit smoothly over the hips and finished with a pleated Oin. ruffle have been evolved by one designer to wear under slender evening gowns. The petticoats swish with a rustle recalling the fashionable beauty of 30 years ago as mannequins cross the floor.
Other designers have already displayed evening frocks fashioned on slender silhouettes with short trains, which will appear again in coming style displays, according to reports from the salons.
Velvet hats trimmed with ostrich tips or Birds of Paradise, have been evolved by a prominent modiste. They are designed to wear with afternoon ensembles of formal elegance. The mode of 1900 will be reflected by fabrics and feminine effects rather than silhouette, stylists say. The demands of the modern woman will be kept in mind, they declare, anil tight waists and street-sweeping daytime skirts will not return.
