GLOOMY PROSPECTS

DISARMAMENT TALKS ALMOST A DEADLOCK BRITISH STAND APPROVED (British Official Wireless.) Bee, noon. RUGBY, Sept. 28. Sir John Simon’s declaration at Geneva yesterday, in opposition to any further adjournment of the Disarmament Conference, is the subject of favorable comment in London. Conversations among the statesmen in Geneva are still proceeding in an endeavor to clear away tlie obstacles and prepare for shaping a draft convention into a form most likely to meet the present situation. Reports from Geneva are decidedly gloomy with regard to the disarmament conversations, writes the Daily Telegraph’s diplomatic correspondent. An agreement might now be possible over the control of armaments, and even over sanctions, but Germany is strongly objecting! to tho probationary period demanded by the French, while there are strong French objections to granting “token” equality to Germany in various categories of heavv armaments.

Reports from other quarters represent the position as amounting to a deadlock.
