VARGA AND HANK OSWALD LAST PROFESSIONAL MATCH TITLE FINALS AT PRELIMS. It is probable that the match between Count Vargo and Hank Oswald, to bo staged this evening at the Opera House, will be the last professional match promoted by the Giabome Wrestling Association this season, ii another exceptionally attractive bout, such as this is expected to prove, is available later, the association may undertake its promotion, but present .indications are that the Vargo-Oswald match will wind up the season. The fact that, the Poverty Bay district championships in the amateur division are being decided to-night, as an aJditional attraction for the public, also points to a winding-up .of the season’s activities. Patrons who have found keen interest in the game this season doubtless will make a point of seeing to-night’s programme through, as it should be equal to anything staged this season, and probably will rank as the mom. interesting of all, with the possible exception of the George Waiker-AJ Pereira match a couple of months ago. The Hungarian, Vargo, is a colorful personality, of authentic title, and with a record of first-class peiloituances iu the wrestling ring, a brief review of his history was published m yesterday’s issue, aud wrestling ‘‘fans” will look forward with interest to making the acquaintance of the big man, whose ability has been proved in the American and European rings, as well as in New Zealand. In his recent history, Vargo has been able to add numerous fine performances to his record, and he is regarded as an outstanding claimant lor. the New Zealand heavyweight title. Ho wrestles in bare feet, as a rule, this suiting his style better and giving him u shade more speed than he has been able to muster in the regulation shoes. In Hank Oswald, “fans” will bo greeting a wrestler whose one previous appearance in Gisborne established lus popularity here. Giving away weight to most of the other heavy men m the New Zealand ring, he has scored several good wins since his advent in the Dominion, in company with Hal Rumberg, and is assured of plenty oi matches while he stays in the country, with an invitation to return next year.

lie is a lively matman, who makes up in speed any disadvantage he suffers in the matter of weight, and is as wily as they come. This latter fact was instanced in his match here witn A 1 Pereira last, month. Oswald is a Hying tackle expert, and uses tno ropes to the fullest advantage in gaining momentum for his attacks. The Gisborne association has taken pains to see that there will be no mishap with the ropes on this occasion, us there was during the OswaldPereira bout. In the amateur championship finals, probably the most interesting will be the match between T. Munro and Mahunga Brown. These two heavyweights are powerful and moderately skilful, and should provide fireworks during their engagement. Brown should win on experience, barring the possibility of disablement. In the light-heavyweight and middleweight classes, C. Gibson and K. Pore meet twice, with the factors of skill and condition favoring Gibson in both bouts. Duckworth and Buscke should be a good match in tho welterweight final, with a shade of points in favor of Duckworth, while Perrott should carry off the lightweight honors in his match with J. Callahan.
