GREAT RESPONSIBILITY BISHOP WILLIAMS’ REMARKS The Mothers’ Union of the diocese of Waiapu held its annual festival in Napier this week. The Rt. Rev. 11. W. Williams, Bishop of Waiapu, addressed the exceptionally large attendance present on “The Significance of Motherhood.’’ “Eve was the mother of us all," lie said. “St. Paul, who happened to be a man, put the blame of the downfall on to her, and so a curse was put upon her and you, her children. But when the Virgin Mary was chosen ta be the mother of Christ, the significance of motherhood underwent a change. Amongst many other things Christ uplifted motherhood. The birth of Christ placed all mothers in a position of responsibility.” Bishop Williams expressed the hope that in these days mothers would encourage their husbands to join with them in realising the full responsibility of motherhood. In the past mothers had taught their children to love God, and he hoped that they would continue to do so.

“You mothers are privileged to be compared with the church,” lie said.

"The church is your mother. You, as mothers, are wedded to Christ, the greatest responsibility you could be given. God grant you. then, His holy spirit, so that in all things you may please Him.”
