Auckland, owner of the clip, has already received a delinite challenge and the necessary lee frinu Mr. 1V .1. Pennell, owner of the Melbourne yacht Oirnara. .In a letter to the Akarana club, Mr. ilennell said considerable support had been received from the Melbourne Centenary Committee for tin; race, which would hi' from Auckland to Melbourne. The Oirnara was to undergo a very extensive overhaul and would not only he. re-rigged, hut would luive a new sail plan. Mr. ilennell mentioned that he had received inquiries from England and America, concerning the nice. There was every possibility of one or two other \ustvaliau yachts • besides the Oirnara taking part in the contest, including a new boat now being luiilt in .Melbourne. Aithongn the prize money for the race has not yet hern deliuilely decided upon by ihe Melbourne Centenary Committee, the present intention is to .donate £SOO. which will go with the trailsI’asmaii Cup. At the finish of the race a regatta will lie held at Melbourne, the lirst prize for the most, important yacht race being £IOOO. Mr. .1. \Y. Wray, owner of the new ■toft, keel yacht Xgataki. now nearing completion at Itemuera, has announced his intention to enter a challenge for the cup. and \ir. !!. Woodside. owner o! the large schooner yacht Vision, also will enter. Ihe latter vessel, which .was lormeriy owned by Mr. ,1. Reid, of Northrnte. lias not been afloat, for several seasons, hut will be put into commission this year. She is to undergo an extensive overhaul and will lie. 'lifted with a new motor. When owned by Mr. Ivei;l the Vision made an extended
