THE WEATHER To-Day’s North Island Report. Overcast and unsettled conditions, with rain fairly general, were reported throughout the North Island this morning. Moderate southerly gales were blowing at Fast (’ape and Cape Campbell, and moderate to strong southerly breey.es elsewhere. The barometer had continued to rise steadily. Temperatures tit !• o’clock were: Auckland -lb degrees. Taurunga Mi. Opotiki Fast Cape 52, Gisborne, and Napier .VI, and Wellington 41!. There was a slight fall over the Auckland province this afternoon. Winds: Southerly and moderate to strong, but decreasing gradually in the south. Seas: Rough south of Fast Cape, with heavy hut moderating swell ; elsewhere moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea : Moderate to strong southerly winds, and rough but moderating seas. Weather: For the most part fine in the western and southern districts, but elsewhere still changeable, with passing showers ; conditions should gradually improve. Temperatures cool Midday Forecast General inference. —The development of a cvelonic centre east of the Auckland peninsula caused a temporary fall of pressure in the north last night. At the same time, an intense anti-cyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea. The situation, therelore, favors strong southerly winds. A further advance of the anti-cyclone should bring a favorable change. Forecast. —Strong southerly winds to gales. Weather, cold and 'changeable, with scattered light showers, improving gradually, and winds moderating tonight. Seas, heavy in south Taranaki bight, elsewhere rather rough.
