EXPORTED AT LOSS
CANADIAN BUTTER DISPOSAL OF SURPLUS (Received Sept. 14, 3 p.m.) REGINA, Sept. 13. According to Mr. P. E. Reed, provincial daily commissioner and secretary of the Western Dairy Association, the western provinces so far have received no indication that any butter will he shipped to the Old Country from the east. Mr. Reed said Saskatchewan .shipped slightly more than I.GOO.OOOIbs. to Hie oversea, market, at. a. net. loss, and Alberta and Manitoba shipped .similar quotas. lie states: ‘‘We realised that unless something was done quickly, the winter would come on with Canadian manufacturers carrying a big surplus that would mean a further decline in prices'. We believed, and still believe, that, the only thing to do was for each province to agree to export a, certain quota, even if at a loss.”
