ILLEGAL RAFFLE
DISPOSAL OF CAR TICKET SELLERS FIXED (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. As a sequel to a motor car art union recently conducted in aid of Hie Wellington St. John Ambulance, two men were prosecuted this morning for selling tickets and so committing breaches of the Gaming Act. "William Thomas Charles Wortley and Stephen F. Willard, both of Wellington, pleaded guilty and were fined £2l each and costs by the magistrate, Mr. E. D. Mosley. The police said attention previously had been drawn to the fact that a prosecution was liable. The sale had stopped, but the two defendants came from Wellington in July and continued to dispose of tickets. The Minister had not granted permission for the raffle, as the Act did not allow him to do so.
