UNDEFENDED DIVORCE

AN UNUSUAL FEATURE RESPONDENT GIVES EVIDENCE The petition’ of Dorothy Lilian Ray ties (Mr. Schramm) for divorce from Audus Arthur Baynes on the ground of his misconduct was granted by Mr. Justice. Herdmau in the Auckland Supremo Court. An unusual feature of the case was that evidence in support of the petition was given by the respondent. The petitioner said they were married in November, 11*20, at Gisborne, and had no children. In October of last year she learned that her husband was keeping company with a young woman, and when ho admitted misconduct petitioner parted from him and they had not lived together since. The respondent was then called, and he said he had no objection to giving evidence. He knew the allegations against him in the petition, anil he admitted they were true. His Honor: How did you come to give evidence?—l preferred to give it, M. Schramm: Did I ask you ty give evidence? —No. His Honor said he did not care about this sort of thing. Mr. Schramm said this evidence had saved the expense of bringing witnesses from Gisborne. The decree nisi was granted, to lie made absolute in three months.
