GISBORNE APPRECIATION THE W. B. MILLER TRUST As an expression of appreciation for the valuable help lie had been able to render sports organisations in Gisborne by the founding of a fund known as the W. Barrington Miller Trust, representatives of spoils bodies met in the Masonic Hotel yeslerday afternoon. Two representatives from each sports body that had been helped by the trust were invited, and they met Mr. Miller in the social hall.

The chair was taken by Mr. F. W. Nolan, who explained that fie, as chairman of the W. B. Miller Trust, had been approached by several of those who had benefited by the fund, suggesting that they should be afforded the opportunity of meeting Mr. Miller and expressing their appreciation of what lie had done for the sporting bodies cf the district. When Mr. Miller had been approached on the matter, he had displayed his pleasure at being privileged to meet representatives of the bodies concerned, but he expressed the wish that the gathering should not bo of a formal nature, but that it should be treated as a friendly visit. Therefore, the chairman asked that there should be no set speeches.

Mr. Miller then moved about the gathering, renewing some old acquaintances and meeting members of organisations his fund had been tiie means of helping.

At the close, Mr. Miller briefly thanked the gathering. He said that what lie had done for sport had been done with the help of others, and it appeared as though he had receive** the credit for it. He added that it was a delight to him to see l>oth the old and the now friends he had met, and he was pleased with the manner in which tiie fund had been administered. livery one he had spoken to about it had said how fairly they had been treated. He had hoped to augment the fund, but he regretted that it was not possible at the moment. He owed something to the people of Gisborne, for if they had not helped him when he was younger, he would not have been able to help the sports bodies today. He hoped he would be spared to pay a further visit to Gisborne. (Hear. Hear).
