THE WEATHER To-Day’s North Island Report. Blue skies were reported this morning at Auckland, Tauranga, and East Cape, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in tho North Island. Light variable breezes wore general. The barometer had commenced a rising movement. Temperatures at 9 o’clock wore: Auckland and Opotiki 58 degrees, Tauranga 60, East (’ape 55. Gisborne 56, X a pier 54. and Wellington 48. Rough seas were reported in the Pay o! Plenty ; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night’s Forecast The depression responsible for the recent. boisterous weather in the north is moving south-eastward off New Zealand. Pressure is rising to the west with the advance of an anticyclone on the eastern Australia. Winds: Becoming southerly generally, and moderate to strong. Seas: Moderate south of Farewell Spit; elsewhere rather rough, with a heavy swell on the east const : Eastern Tanman Sea: Moderate to strong southerly winds, and rough seas. Weather: .Mainly line in the western districts, elsewhere rather unsettled, with some showers at times at most places, but. more especially between Cook Strait and the East Cape. Temperatures cool. Midday Forecast General inference.—The recent depression is now centred near Chatham Islands, and is still rather deep. A rather intense anticyclone is now advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —-Moderate to strong southerly winds. Weather cool and changeable. with scattered showers, but improving gradually. Seas rather rough, with a heavy but decreasing swell.
