OF GREAT VALUE
WAR SIT IPS’ MA NO EUVR ES
'flic value to both squadrons of the recent manoeuvres in the Hauraki Gulf ihetween cruisers of the New Zealand and Australian Divisions of tho Royal Navy is unquestioned, according to Commodore Burges Watson. In a brief reference to the visit to Auckland of the Canberra and Australia, Commodore Burges Watson said that the ships of both squadrons had not previously had an opportunity for competitive exorcise together. Jt had always been intended that such manoeuvres should he carried out when Rear-Admiral Blake was stationed in New Zealand, but as only one ship was then available it had not been possible to carry out the plan. “The recent manoeuvres in the gulf,” the Commodore added, “have been of t remendous help to both squadtons. The competitive spirit which prevailed and the strategic exorcises which were undertaken have been of very great value in the short visit, and the exercises have done a world of good to all of us.”
