(Herald Correspondent.) The Dramatic Circle has commenced rehearsals, and hopes, to produce two one-act comedies at the. institute lair in November. The Red Cross circle run in connection with the Women’s Institute, held its meeting last week, and members received instruction in home, nursing and first aid. St. Paul’s Ladies’. Guild held a special meeting to finalise arrangements for its spring flower show and sale of work to be held early in October. Schedules have been circulated and all members are working hard to make the show an outstanding event, and financial success. There was a general expression of disappointment when it became known that there were not enough players available to meet the B representative football team from Gisborne last Saturday, some of the Matawai members being unable to turn out at the last minute. Next Saturday a. football match to be played at Motu should prove interesting— Married v. Single. A number of veteran players, Messrs. G. S. Caulton, L. C. Arthur, G. S. Bridge, F. Read, N. Nisbctt, and G. Pederson, are to be included in the married men’s team. The single men are mustering their fastest and keenest players, and are very hopeful of putting up a big score. Saturday night’s proved the most successful of the euchre tournaments held at Motuhora, 40 players attending, and afterwards enjoying dancing to music supplied by Mrs. F. Cleary, and Messrs. R, Robb and S. Grantham. Messrs. (’. Pederson, S. Anderson, and G. Richardson showed even cards and in the plav-off Mr. 0. Pederson proved the winner of the men’s prize. Mrs. G. Richardson won the ladies’ prize presented by Mrs. G. Begg, Mrs. Anderson and Mr. J. Donaldson also received gifts.

A. big crowd of spectators watched the final basketball match at Motuhora last Hal unlay, when the men won by 12 lo 7, thus taking the cup. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladies and regret was expressed that the matches were over as they have caused great fun for jilavers and onlookers.
