To-Day’s North Island Report. Blue skies were reported this morning at Wellington and between Gisborne and Opotiki, but overcast conditions continued elsewhere in the North Island. Light southerly breezes were reported south of Gisborne, and moderate north - erlies to the north. 'llie barometer had continued to fall steadily to a low level. Temperatures at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and Tauranga 56 degrees, Opotiki and East Cape 57, Gisborne 58, Napier 55, and Wellington 51. Hough seas were reported at East Cape; elsewhere moderate or sirtootli. Last Night’s Forecast An extensive low pre#rm* area lies along the west coast. Barometers are at last falling to tlu* eastward, where an intense anil-cyclone has been situated during the past few days. Winds: Easterly to northerly, strong to gale force, generally, changing to southerly in many places within the next 24 hours. Seas: Heavy oil the east coast; elsewhere rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong west to south-west winds ; rough seas. Weather: Unsettled and squally, with rain in most districts; heavy falls in the central and eastern portions of the North Island, but mainly light and scattered ever the South Island, lentperatures becoming cooler to-morrow. Midday Forecast General inference. —An (intense depression covers New Zealand, barometers being low, but rather uniform over the Dominion, and higher all around it. Over eastern Australia there has been a considerable rise of pressure. Forecast. —Moderate bub freshening southerly winds. Weather dull and cool, with mist or fog in places. Rain probable, especially frorp Hawke’s Bay northwards. Seas moderate, but rising.
