WAIKOHU COUNTY
COUNCIL’S MONTHLY MEETING Tho monthly meeting of the Waikohu County Council was held at To Karaka to-day. the chairman, Cr. A. A. Eraser, presiding. There were present also Crs. 11. H. Dods, M. Doyle, C. Gaukrodgcr, G. 11. Morris, H. C. Boys, and J. H. Gardner.
Mr. L. H. Maclean wrote asking that tho upper end of the Puhatikotiko road bo graded up and some metal put in boggy places.—lt was decided that the matter should be attended to.
Mr. P. H. Sherratt applied to have liis property at Tabling a- transferred to the Cook County.—The application was declined on the motion, of tho chairman, seconded by Cr. Doyle.
Mr. R. O. Mackenzie forwarded his resignation as ranger.—Tho resignation was received, and it was resolved to call fresh applications. The Borough Council wrote asking that the restrictions on firewood carting on tho Motu front road be lifted.—it was resolved, on the motion of the chairman, that owing to the bad state of tho road the restrictions must bo enforced.
Mr F. C. Bcllerby wrote asking that a culvert on the Koranga road be shifted, as it was discharging water on to cultivated land.—The matter was referred to the engineer for attention. Mr E. F. Iveson, secretary of tho Wharekopae-Tahora Settlers’ Association, wrote stating that a resolution was passed at a recent meeting of the association opposing the closing of the Taumata road.—The letter was received. Mr M. if, White advised that the Cook and Waikohu counties had been struck ou't by the Conciliation Council ns parties to the new award, but that an agreement had not been reached oil the matter of wages and suburban and country work —The letter was received.
Mr ,T. D. Anderson, inspector of Btock ( drew attention to the presence of blackberry growing on the riverbank opposite the Maori pa at To Karaka, and asked that steps be taken to have it eradicated. —The engineer was instructed to have the matter attended to. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that tlie consent had been given to'the use of accrued thirds from the Iluiarua block for tho erection of a bridge at Thompson ’ s Creek. —The letter was received.
The Commissioner of Unemployment wrote asking that details be supplied of developmental work performed by relied' labor “over the fence” and on county roads.—lt was explained that the information had 1 been supplied. The New Zealand Farmers’ Union, Auckland, wrote in reference to the proposed derating of farm lands.—The letter was received, the chairman remarking that the matter had been dealt with fully at the Counties’ Conference. The Gisborne Borough Council wrote asking whether the council would meet iu conference on the question of apportionment of heavy traffic fees.—lt was decided to agree to meet the other local authorities in conference.
Accounts amounting to £2438 9s 3d were passed for payment. Cr. Oaukrodger referred to the number of stray stock on the roads, both by day and night, and it was resolved to take proceedings against all offenders.
